Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)
The pupils are divided into year groups according to age with approximately 14 pupils in a class. Pupils can be taught in smaller groups for practical subjects and for some English and maths lessons depending on the needs of the group. At Key Stage 3 all subjects in the National Curriculum are followed using the programmes of study from Key Stages 2 and 3 as appropriate. Pupils follow a Key Skills programme in smaller mixed age ability groups. All pupils follow a course in personal, social and health education and citizenship to help them to become independent and to prepare them for adult life.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
The pupils are divided into year groups according to age with approximately 14 pupils in a class. All pupils follow the National Curriculum using the programmes of study from Key Stages 3 and 4 as appropriate. For many lessons pupils are grouped according to ability to allow for targeted individual support.

College Link Courses
All pupils attend link courses at West Herts College giving them the opportunity to experience college life. They spend one morning a week in Year 10 and a full day in year 11. The course is designed to meet the needs of pupils with a range of learning difficulties. It is based on a Bridge to Foundation course covering aspects of basic skills, ICT, media, creative arts and life skills.
Work Experience
All pupils take part in a work experience programme in Year 11. This is carefully planned, differentiated and supported according to individual needs.
Careers Education and Guidance (Years 9 - 11)
Careers Education and Guidance is designed to form part of a programme which prepares pupils for the important decisions they will have to make when they leave school and help them to develop and follow their own personal career plans.
Pupils take part in a programme from Year 9 when transition planning begins. It gives access to accurate information, provides experience of the working world and enables pupils to develop an action plan in which they plan for the future and record achievement.
The school works very closely with the Hertfordshire Youth Connexions Service who contribute to the teaching programme as well as give guidance to pupils and parents on an individual basis. The Hertfordshire Connexions Service also supports our work experience programme in which all Year 11 pupils take part. This gives our pupils the opportunity to gain first hand experience of working for an employer. Connexions Personal Advisers attend annual review meetings in Years 9 and 11.
Progression from The Collett School
Pupils transfer to college based provision at the end of Year 11, either to entry level courses for pupils with learning difficulties or more general courses, often with a vocational element. Some pupils may attend the Transition Course which is run by Oaklands College on St Luke’s campus in Redbourn.
