Reception and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
Pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are taught as a single group. Pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage which leads on to Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum. Teaching uses the Early Years Foundation Stage to plan activities to develop basic skills including personal and social skills.
Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6)
The pupils are taught in year groups with approximately 10 to 12 pupils in each. Some classes may include pupils from two different year groups. They follow the National Curriculum using the programmes of study for Key Stage 2 as well as some aspects of Key Stage 1, especially in Literacy and Numeracy. Pupils are taught predominantly by their class teacher but may be taught by other teachers for some subjects.
The Options Programme
An Options programme is offered to all pupils from Reception to Year 6 on Friday afternoons. This is taught to groups of mixed ages and abilities. It focuses on developing personal and social skills and allows pupils to choose activities that may be outside the remit of the National Curriculum, broadening their experience and developing their independence skills. Activities may include art, craftwork, cooking, gardening, music, singing, visiting the local gym or an adventure playground.
